Be a Part of the First Orange City Youth Council!
Orange City is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for current 10th and 11th grade students—The Orange City Youth Council. The Youth Council will be composed of seven 10th – 11th grade students, who will be charged with representing the interests of youth in the Orange City community.
The Youth Council will:
- Involve youth in local government through participation on local boards and committees
- Increase youth voice in determining Orange City’s future direction
- Increase volunteerism among youth in civic affairs
- Make formal recommendations to the Orange City Council
Youth Council members will be selected through an application process. An ideal Youth Council will be composed of a diverse group since they will be representing ALL youth in the Orange City area. Our primary criterion for selection will be a demonstration that the youth wants to make a difference here in Orange City and greater West Volusia—and we will give them the opportunity to do just that!
Seven youths will be appointed to an advisory board to the City Council. Of the seven members, four members must reside within the city boundaries of Orange City. The four members who are city residents may attend University High, a local private school, on-line school, or be home-schooled. Three members of the Youth Council may be from Orange City (or nearby cities) but must be enrolled in University High School.
Applications are due by 3 pm Friday, April 5, 2019. All applications must be returned to either the City Clerk’s office (229 E. Graves Avenue, Orange City), or University High School Activities office (Room 2B-110).
If you have any questions regarding the Youth Council, please feel free to contact Gloria Thomas, City Clerk (386-775-5403) or Mr. Weaver or Ms. Pearsall (University High Activities office).
